When you search on SEEK using the Where field, you can either look for a specific suburb, a broader area, or you can choose Exact location only. If you don't choose Exact location only, we use the location you chose as the centre point for your results. However, depending on the type of role and location, we may show you results from nearby areas to ensure you see all the relevant opportunities.
For example, if you’re searching for “barista” or “retail assistant”, you may prefer to choose a job in a specific suburb that’s close to where you live. If you’re searching for “accountant” or “software developer”, you may be willing to travel further. In addition, job seekers in rural areas tend to travel further than those in metropolitan areas. We may also look at local geographical features, such as crossing the harbour in Sydney or Auckland. So, to maximise your chance of seeing a relevant opportunity, we may expand your search area to include surrounding metropolitan or regional areas.
How do I search for jobs within a certain area?
You can search for jobs based on how close they are to a particular location. In this example below we're searching for a barista role within 10km of Newmarket.
